A heartbreaking moment at Caxton Hall Youth Club, a cornerstone of the Bow West community, will be finally lost. Youth clubs like Caxton are so much more than just buildings; they’re places where young people forge friendships, develop skills, and find support during critical years of their lives. The memories made of trips, residentials, and the annual community fun day that brought together over 300 people will surely live on in the hearts of everyone who was part of the club.
Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when the place you’ve built so many meaningful connections is being replaced with something that might not serve the same purpose or meet the same needs of the community. The absence of a dedicated space for youth work leaves a gap that’s hard to fill, especially when it comes to fostering a sense of belonging and offering young people the guidance and opportunities they need.
As we reflect on the good times and the impact Caxton Hall Youth Club has had, it is important to acknowledge the positive difference and legacy OYC has made to the lives of the young people and the community.
While it’s a sad chapter, it’s also a reminder of the importance of spaces like Caxton Hall, which play such a crucial role in shaping the future of young people. Let’s hope that, in the future, new initiatives and resources can arise to meet the needs of the youth in Bow West.
